Why Persecution?
The key reasons for the persecution of Falun Gong are as follows:- Popularity: By 1999, Falun Gong had gained 100 millions of practitioners in China, outnumbering members of the Communist Party (CCP).
- Independence: Falun Gong operated independently of the Communist government and was China’s largest independent civil society group.
- Ideological Differences: Falun Gong’s teachings of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance contrast with the CCP’s atheist ideology.
- Political Motivation: The former Communist leader Jiang, partly driven by jealousy over Falun Gong’s popularity, used the campaign against it to consolidate his power.
Scale of Persecution
- Millions have been detained or imprisoned, with many left bankrupt, jobless, and homeless over the past two decades.
- Hundreds of thousands were tortured and abused by the CCP using over 100 different methods of torture.
- Over 5,000 documented deaths from persecution (real number believed to be much higher).
- Hundreds of thousands were killed for their organs, according to the China Tribunal.
Defamation and Slander from the CCP
Since 1999, the Chinese Communist Party has leveraged state-controlled newspapers, television networks, radio programs, online media, social media, educational materials, school programs, public billboards, books, publications, cultural performances, and exhibitions to defame Falun Gong practitioners and incite public hatred against them.- The CCP staged “self immolation” on Tiananmen Square.
- The CCP’s fabrication of “1,400 death cases” to slander Falun Gong.

Voices in Support of Falun Gong Practitioners
Despite enduring brutal persecution and forced organ harvesting in China, Falun Gong practitioners have garnered strong support from U.S. government officials and legislators at all levels, including members of Congress. In addition, significant international support has been received.
- The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R.4132, the Falun Gong Protection Act.
- Canadian cities raised the Falun Dafa Day flag in honor of the practice.
- The China Tribunal concluded the CCP has been harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners in China.
